Front End in Mission, BC

A front-end vehicle repair can consists of a variety of suspension related issues that may cause strange sounds within your vehicle. These sounds can consist of clunks and squeaks and can be caused by any number of related parts including:

Ball Joints:

Similar to a human hip joint, the automobile ball joints are spherical bearings that connect control arms to steering knuckles. Ball joints are typically encased in a protective rubber-like boot that allows movement and expansion of a lubricant while protecting it from dirt.

Tie Rods:

Tie rods are another steering component in your vehicle. When the steering wheel is turned, the tie rods help push and pull the steering rack.

Springs:

The springs in your vehicle are used to absorb the energy created by bumps in the road. This reduces jolting within your vehicle providing a smoother ride.

Shock Absorbers:

When you drive over a bump, the springs would cause your vehicle to bounce up and down until the energy dissipates. Shock absorbers are used to dissipate this energy creating a smoother ride.

Upper & Lower Control Arms:

A control arm allows up and down movement within the suspension while holding other components firmly onto the vehicle.

Bushings:

A Bushing is used to dampen energy transmitted between two separate parts while allowing a certain amount of movement.

Stabilizer Bars:

Stabilizer bars are used to keep a vehicles body from “rolling” when going through a sharp turn.

Struts:

A strut combines the dampening effect of a shock absorber with the ability to support sideways loads not along its axis of compression.

Drag Links:

The drag link is used in a steering linkage to convert the rotation of a steering arm to a centre link and eventually to the tie rod links.

Idler Arms:

The idler arm is a component of the steering linkages that bolts to the vehicle’s frame or subframe and is essential to the proper functioning of your steering gear.

Steering Racks:

The steering racks is a component of the rack-and-pinion steering control. The steering rack is a metal piece on which the gears, or pinions, slide back and forth determining how far the wheel turns.

Issues related to the suspension parts can make driving more dangerous through increasing both the stopping distance as well as the chance of rolling. Not only does it add dangers to your every day driving, your vehicle will not absorb bumps as well making it more uncomfortable to drive. If you notice any strange noises, bring your vehicle in for servicing as soon as possible. Early diagnoses of suspension issues can save you money in the long run.
